Fannie Mae Executive VP Moves on to Coinbase

Fannie Mae Executive VP Brian Brooks is leaving the company and taking on the challenge of heading the legal team for Coinbase, a digital currency exchange. The move comes four years after Brooks began working for Fannie.

“We are extremely grateful for Brian’s four years of strong leadership, insightful counsel and critical contributions to Fannie Mae’s transformation, and we wish he were staying,” Fannie CEO Timothy J. Mayopoulos said in a press release, according to National Mortgage News.

“This is a loss for Fannie Mae, but also a great opportunity for Brian to pursue his longstanding interest in financial technologies and the FinTech community.”

During the transition period, Stephen McElhennon has been tapped to lead Fannie Mae's legal functions, though, the company does plan to find a permanent replacement for Brooks.
