Worcester City Council Looks to Help House Hurricane Victims
Hurricane relief and efforts to help victims who have lost their homes have been one of the hottest topics in the mortgage world. So much has changed due to widespread damage and losses of homes that were still undergoing mortgage payments. Now, the Worcester City Council is looking to lend a helping hand of their own.
"The Worcester City Council has asked the city administration to identify affordable housing that might exist for people resettling here from hurricane-battered Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands," according to National Mortgage News.
The report states that Worcester is has 19th largest Puerto Rican population per capita in the country. District 4 Councilor Sarai Rivera said the community is already seeing an influx of Puerto Rico residents who are talking their way up to Worcester to stay with family members, following the devastating hurricanes that have crippled the island.
Rivera is looking to help open the conversation on how the community can discover new space in what is a pretty crowded city, Given that the affordable housing inventory is almost completed if not completed depleted, the conversation could involve resettlement in neighboring cities.
